People & Religion Umbria International film fest
The “Film Festival Popoli e Religioni” (FFPR), promoted by ISTESS and organized from “cielo e terra” ass., is an important actor inside of intercultural dialogue and between laic and religiouse dialogue. Through the art of cinema, FFPR shows how different people from different religions can live togheter and know eachothers, not only tollerating but estimating. In this context FFPR finds its purpose. The main obejectives of FFPR are to valorize cultural differences, to pay attention to the different nationational/reagional cultural identities in a way of intercultural dialogue. To get this result FFPR invites guests from all around the world, especially from european countries with different backgrounds. For example K. Zanussi, J. Sthur, M. Kudelko and many others, through their works, talked about cultural and religiouse substrate of their countries. In this way FFPR improves a multicultural knowledge of the people and improves the circultation of european and international audiovisual works, giving the chance of an important access to bigger markets for countries with low capacity of audiovisual production and improving the attendance of public. For the next edition FFPR wishs an improovement of projections, odience and new chances to meet different cultures.
The FFPR is divided in different sections: the first one is “Film in concorso”; it shows variouse projections related to yearly focus. There are different prizes: the best feature film, it is chosen from different european and international areas, that shows foundamental intercultural and interfaith values.
The best documentary that pays attention on social and religiouse problems, especially on crisis areas.
The best short film, it is choosen from different european countries for improoving cinematographic art especially in countries with low capacity of audiovisual production. The second one is “Film fuori concorso” and it pays attention on multicultural topics; it is dedicated to movies that pay questions on social and religiouse topics and they are focused on dialogue. The third one is “Film per le scuole” that has an agreement with local schools for improving the knowledge of the students about intercultural dialogue. The 4th is “Focus” and it every year pays attention to different countries: India, Poland, South America and Cina; for the 2009 edition there will be “Focus” on cinematographic and culture of Africa and Romania. During all “Focus” there are concerts, theatre, reportage, exhibitions mostly from all Europe and around the world. Its aim is to improve the attendance of young people during the FFPR. The 5th is dedicated to “retrospective movies” and this year it will be dedicated to Mr. Krzystof Zanussi, one of the most important polish directors, that completes his 40 years of carrier in cinema. It is important to remind that Mr. Zanussi is plurirewarded as director and a careful cinematographic productor with the low capacity of audiovisual productions. The 6th includes a “Tribute to movies that talk about stories and lifes of musicians” who with their jobs got close to spirituality. The 7th section is dedicated to international and italian animation cinema. The 8th section, “il film che ti ha cambiato la vita”, is about movies that gave tha chance to think about social and religiouse topics through the testimony of important personages not always connecteted with the world of cinema. For the next edition FFPR is planning a workshop that it will realize a short commercial about multiculturality a dialogue between people, after a session of classes with professionists of audiovisual.As every year FFPR will give carrier prize. Last years Krzystof Zanussi, Franco Battiato and Alessandro D'Alatri were rewarded. For the 2009 edition TFF would like to reward Mr. Costantin Costa-Gavras, master of european cinema.
